Got an apartment

I just got back from signing the papers. It’s offical…I have a place to live! Woo Hoo!

Was getting a little worried and scared it might not happened but looks like I pulled it through once again. A little too close this time but hey, better close than never!

My new apartment is in the Russian Hill area of San Francisco. I am a few blocks from North Beach (basically little Italy) and the Fisherman’s Wharf (a little touristy but still good seafood). I am living with two other people (one male and one female) in a 3BR/2BA house. My room is the smallest of them all, however I have the most closet and storage space. We have a garage (which I won’t use since I don’t have a car). Inside the garage there is more storage space as well as a washer and dryer (that is free to use!). Lots of space and nice views of the bay. Even have a little tiny patio with a BBQ Grill and room for about 3 people to hang out and have a beer (of course they have to stand fairly close to one another but still…I just like the ability to grill some animal flesh!)

Now I just have to buckle down and get my stuff all packed up and all the other details worked out. Cancel my services, DSL, change my address, forward my mail, etc. So much to do and so little time.

Moving sucks

My year lease is over at the end of June and since I already pay too much, I’m not going to pay $200 more to have a month to month lease. I’m tired of being locked into a lease and looking to save money so I’m looking for a room for rent with roommates. I’m still looking in San Francisco but with every day of looking I am reminded how much I dislike SF. Apartments are run down or have that old feeling, small, expensive, parking is a pain, some don’t have dishwashers, some have sinks in rooms (don’t ask - I have no idea why it was there), some have very little but big on space. Either it is very hard to find a place to live in San Francisco or I’m one of the most picky person on the planet. Either I like the place but the person I’d be living with is a little odd or the people are nice but the place is gross, too small, too far up a hill or something else. A very few have been both - those I tried to leave as quick as I could.

I have learned one thing from all of this…people are FREAKY! I mean everyone knows this but you never really know someone until you are invited to their place and see what they see as “livable conditions”. Maybe I’m the only one but when I walk down the street and see people that seem normal walking down, I don’t look at them and think, oh they probably live in a place with mold on the walls and on the floor. Of course there are a few of those people where you DO think that but they tend to be the type that sleep on the sidewalk on the street or better yet, taking a crap on the street!

I am so freaking tired of looking at places. I have a few selections that I’m interested but again none of them really make me pee my pants and want it more than the others. It kinda feels like looking for a job. Except you have to pay instead of the other way around. I’m trying to find a place that I enjoy, get along with the people and can still have my own personal freedom to come, go and have people over as I see fit - all the while not paying an arm and a leg. I’m getting close to just taking the first one that comes around and be done with the damn process. Hell, I still have to pack and then move! Ugh! Maybe I should have just paid the $200 extra dollars.

Ok, I’m cranky…time to go get crap organized to pack easier and maybe take a nap!
