You may be wondering what this “Nike+ Stats” is on the right side is all about. I know it’s been awhile since I’ve posted here but I promise it’s because I’ve been busy and not lazy. Let me explain this Nike+ Stats thing.
I recently decided to sell all my iPods (I had a Mini and a 1st generation Nano) and purchase the 8GB Black Nano. At the same time I purchased the Nike+ iPod Sport Kit (see image below of the components outside of the package and shown close up).

These two components is all that is needed to use the Nike+ system. The white connector on the right is plugged into the dock connector of your iPod Nano (cannot be used with any other iPod). An example of this can be seen like this example:

The item on the left (of the first image) that is red and white is the transmitter and goes inside your shoe. Nike makes some running shoes which have a little pocket that this can be slid into. My problem is I don’t have Nike running shoes, don’t want to buy new Nike shoes and don’t think Nike running shoes feel good (I use New Balance shoes).
What I did instead was to attach the transmitter to the outside of my shoe using a little velcro pocket attached to the shoelaces, like this:
Once the transmitter is attached to my shoe and the receiver is plugged into my iPod, I’m all ready to go. I only have to start my iPod when I start to run and it will track the rest. What it tracks is how far I run, how fast I run, calories burned and some other minor data (songs played, etc). This data is then uploaded to Nike’s website so I can track my progress using their display.
I have been wanting to get back into shape and although weight training is not something I avoid, cardio exercise is something I avoid. With the use of this system not only can I see how much better I’m getting but I also use it as motivation.
If only I can talk some of my friends into buying this so we can have virtual races…
May I ask what this little piece of technology cost?
